July 2010
Aloha Members,
I hope all of you have been enjoying your summer thus far. Mahalo to all that have participated in the Dinosaur Train Experience and display at Pearlridge Shopping Center; the Kamehameha Celebration Hula Competition and the Kika Convention Demonstrations this past month.
We will be awarding our scholarships recipients at this month’s General Membership Meeting. We also will be hearing from Lieutenant Governor Duke Aiona, and look forward to seeing you there.
We as a club in all our business of daily life encounter friends, colleagues, and family members. This month’s olelo noeau hopefully will help us to be mindful of what we say and possibly the spirit behind what we say to these people.
“I ka `olelo no ke ola, I ka `olelo no ka make”
In ancient Hawai`i, a kahuna`ana`ana could pray someone to death or counter another’s death prayer. The saying tells the Hawaiians that words can either be a source for healing or destroying and so we need to be careful with our words.
